1. Key takeaways from the quarter
Between Jul 25 and Oct 23, 2026, the large technology companies reported results in which AI demand outran supply, while the cost of meeting it began to show in cash flow and credit markets. Five conclusions explain the quarter; each rests on the chapter named in brackets, and every item is judged against Oct 24, 2026. Fiscal periods differ between companies and are never summed.
1. Cloud and AI-chip growth is supply-limited, not demand-limited. Google Cloud revenue rose 82% to $24.8B, Azure grew 43% and AWS 37% to $42.2B. Nvidia's Data Center revenue was $89.0B (+117%) and Broadcom's AI semiconductor revenue $16.7B (+221%). Nvidia's CFO said supply should remain a bottleneck through the end of fiscal 2028. [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3]
2. Backlog is very large but concentrated in a few AI labs. Reported backlog is $496B at AWS, $514B at Google Cloud, $678B at Microsoft and $664B at Oracle. About 45% of Microsoft's then-$625B backlog was tied to OpenAI in January, and about $100B of AWS backlog is one customer. Broadcom's management outlook of about $115B (FY2027) and $230B (FY2028) of AI revenue is a statement, not a result. [Chapter 4] [Chapter 5]
3. Spending has outrun operating cash. The big four guide 2026 capex to $725-745B, 77-82% above about $410B in 2025 (our sum of company guidance). Meta's free cash flow was -$2.12B and Oracle's about -$5.4B, and Meta's five-year credit default swap hit a record on Oct 22. In our judgement only Microsoft is funding growth mainly from internal cash. [Chapter 4]
4. Strong prints did not hold the share price. Meta rose about 2.2-2.5% after hours on Oct 21, then fell 6.98% on Oct 22 as bubble fears returned. Apple fell 3-4% after hours on Jul 30 despite a beat, and Broadcom closed down 4.35% on Oct 8. Goldman Sachs Research puts the S&P 500 forward P/E at 19x, down from 23x (estimate). [Chapter 5]
5. Headline numbers need adjusting before they are compared. Meta's GAAP EPS of $3.83 includes a $9.89B legal charge ($7.40 without it, Meta's own calculation). Apple's 50.1% gross margin included about 2 points of tariff refunds, and Microsoft's lower 2026 capex is an accounting change. Broadcom's gross margin fell 210 bp to 75% on memory content, and TSMC's fell 1.3 points to 66.4% on the 2-nm ramp. [Chapter 2] [Chapter 3]
1.1 Companies at a glance

2. Platforms, devices and cloud: company snapshots
Chapter 1 gave the quarter's conclusions; this chapter records the results behind them for six platform, device and cloud companies. Each row names its own fiscal period; figures are as reported (GAAP) unless marked.
2.1 Company results at a glance
| Company, period | Key figure | Date | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meta, Q3 2026 (to Sep 30) | Revenue $64.60B (+26%); operating income $12.99B (−37%); GAAP EPS $3.83 ($7.40 excluding a $9.89B legal charge, Meta's own calculation); free cash flow (non-GAAP) −$2.12B | Oct 21, 2026 | Reported | Meta release |

Cloud supplied the growth (Google Cloud +82%, Azure +43%, AWS +37%), while Meta and Tesla showed the cost side: negative or thin free cash flow and a cut spending plan.
2.2 Cloud: three scoreboards, not one
The three clouds are not like for like. One source (CRN) gives comparable June-quarter numbers; the margin column is our division.
| June quarter 2026 | Revenue | YoY | Operating income | Margin (income ÷ revenue) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AWS (Amazon Q2) | $42.2B | +37% | $16.6B | 16.62 ÷ 42.23 = 39.4% |
| Microsoft Intelligent Cloud (FQ4) | $39.3B | +32% | $15.9B | 15.9 ÷ 39.3 = 40.5% |
| Google Cloud (Alphabet Q2) | $24.8B | +82% | $8.8B | 8.8 ÷ 24.8 = 35.5% |
AWS margin conflict. CNBC gives 36.8%; Investing.com and TechTimes give 39.4%. Since 16.62 ÷ 42.23 = 39.4%, we follow 39.4%. About $600M of operating income came from energy-derivative gains; excluding it, (16.62 − 0.6) ÷ 42.23 ≈ 37.9%.
Google Cloud rose from $13.6B a year earlier (24.8 ÷ 13.6 = 1.82) and from $20.0B in Q1, a gain of $4.8B in one quarter. Operating income rose 212%. Synergy Research (estimate) puts Q2 share at AWS 28%, Microsoft 20%, Google 15% of a $143B market.
Microsoft reported fiscal 2026 revenue above $331B (+18%) and operating income above $155B (+21%). Azure and other cloud services grew 43% (43% at constant currency, against 40% in the prior quarter) and passed $100B for the year, up 41%. The $4.74 EPS excludes the OpenAI investment impact; GAAP net income of $35.77B included a $3.2B Anthropic gain. Capex of $41B (+69%) includes finance leases; operating cash flow of $55.4B less free cash flow of $19.64B leaves about $35.8B of cash capex. Management said demand exceeds capacity (capex and free cash flow: Chapter 4). One aggregator, shattered.io, says Microsoft disclosed Azure at $29.4B for the quarter on Sep 2; no primary document confirms it, so it is unverified.
Amazon crossed $200B of quarterly sales for the first time, with operating margin of 13.7% against 11.4%. Net income of $62.6B is 2.3 times operating income, implying large non-operating gains the material does not name. Quarterly capex was $54.21B (+68%, gross purchases); Chapter 4 uses $53.1B, cash capex net of property sales and incentives. Amazon's AI business and chips business each passed a $25B annualised run rate (company statement). Backlog and capex totals: Chapter 4.
2.3 Meta, Apple and Tesla: reading the headline
Meta beat the top of its $61–64B July range. Ad impressions rose 10% and price per ad 14%, so ad revenue growth is roughly 1.10 × 1.14 − 1 ≈ 25%. GAAP operating income fell because costs rose 68%, including a $9.89B charge for the August agreement with 52 state attorneys general (up to about $18.59B in total). Excluding it, operating income is 12.99 + 9.89 = $22.88B, up 11% on $20.54B, and margin is 35.4% against 40.1%. Reported EPS rose 265% only because Q3 2025 carried a $15.93B tax charge; against Q3 2025 EPS excluding that charge ($7.25), $7.40 is up about 2%. Family of Apps earned $17.12B and Reality Labs lost $4.13B. Operating cash flow of $32.79B less capex of $34.91B is the −$2.12B free cash flow, against +$10.63B a year earlier. Capex rose 80% (34.91 ÷ 19.37). Guidance and the Class C stock are in Chapter 5.
Apple reported products revenue of $78.7B and Services of $30.7B (sum $109.4B). iPhone was $54.25B (+22%), Mac $10.35B (+29%) and iPad $6.19B (−6%). Gross margin of 50.1% included about 2 points from tariff refunds, so the underlying figure is roughly 48% (our subtraction). Services missed the $31.22B analyst estimate by $0.48B, and Greater China at $18.8B missed a $19.6B estimate. Management said chip supply and memory costs limit the September quarter (Chapter 5).
Tesla has a conflict on capex. Electrek, writing on results night, said the letter left the "more than $25B" 2026 plan unchanged, with nine-month capex of $13.01B. Reuters, via IndMoney, reports that Tesla cut the plan to about $20B on the call. This is a press report; the material holds no Tesla document for it. Under $25B, Q4 would need 25 − 13.01 ≈ $12B; under $20B, about 20 − 13.01 ≈ $7B. Q3 capex was $4.73B, which reconciles with operating cash flow of $6.263B: 6.263 − 4.732 = 1.531. CNBC prints capex of $3.73B and year-ago revenue of $28.24B; we follow Electrek and Yahoo Finance.
Cloud is the strongest line in the group; Meta's −$2.12B and Tesla's thin $1.53B free cash flow show spending catching up with operating cash.
3. Chips, software and infrastructure: company snapshots
Chapter 2 covered the platforms that buy AI compute; this chapter covers the companies that sell, build and host it, and the figures show suppliers growing as fast as capacity allows.
3.1 Results at a glance
Fiscal periods differ and are not summed.
| Item | Key figure | Date | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nvidia Q2 FY27 (ended Jul 26) | Revenue $96.2B (+106%); Data Center $89.0B (+117%). Q3 outlook $108.0B ±2% | Aug 26, 2026 | Reported; outlook is guidance | NVIDIA release |
| Broadcom Q3 FY26 (ended Aug 2) | Revenue $29.6B (+86%); AI semiconductors $16.7B (+221%). Q4 outlook ~$34.8B | Sep 2, 2026 | Reported; Q4 upcoming | Broadcom release |
| AMD Q2 2026 (ended Jun 27) | Revenue $11.5B (+50%); Data Center $6.7B (+107%). Q3 outlook ~$13.0B ±$0.3B | Aug 4, 2026 | Reported; outlook is guidance | AMD release; CNBC |
| TSMC Q3 2026 (ended Sep 30) | Revenue US$46.72B (NT$1,494.24B, +50.9% in NT$). Q4 outlook US$52.3-54.3B | Oct 15, 2026 | Reported (via Futurum) | Futurum; SEMIVISION |
| Oracle Q1 FY27 (ended Aug 31) | Revenue $19.3B (+30%); Cloud Infrastructure $7.4B (+121%); RPO $664B | Sep 10, 2026 | Reported | Oracle release |
The material holds no Intel or Salesforce results, so neither is covered and nothing is inferred. The blueprint's "about $104 billion" for Nvidia's Q3 is the pre-print consensus of $103.8B, not the guide. We follow the company's $108.0B.
The silicon layer is capacity-limited, not demand-limited, and its margins are slipping from mix and new nodes, while the hosting layer (Oracle) shows the cost in cash.
3.2 Nvidia and Broadcom: the two AI-silicon models
Nvidia reported Q2 FY27 on Aug 26, 2026, for the quarter ended Jul 26. Revenue was $96,221M, up 18% on Q1 and 106% on Q2 FY26. Gross margin was 75.0% on both bases, and EPS was $2.46 GAAP and $2.22 non-GAAP. GAAP operating income was $63,734M, or 66.2% of revenue (63,734 ÷ 96,221). Data Center was $89.0B, about 92.5% of revenue (89.0 ÷ 96.2), and Edge Computing was $7.2B, so the two sum to $96.2B. On the call, management split Data Center into $49B hyperscale and $40B ACIE (49 + 40 = 89) (according to a GuruFocus summary of the call). Revenue beat the company's own $91.0B guide midpoint by 5.7% ((96.22 − 91.0) ÷ 91.0).
Q3 guidance is $108.0B ±2%, a range of $105.8B to $110.2B, with no China Data Center compute assumed. The midpoint is 12.2% above Q2 (108.0 ÷ 96.2 − 1), with gross margin of 74.0% ±50 bp. Management said Q4 gross margin should bottom at 71-72%, and CFO Colette Kress said supply is expected "to remain a bottleneck at least through the end of fiscal year 2028", with preliminary fiscal 2028 growth of about 70%.
Broadcom reported fiscal Q3 on Sep 2, 2026. Revenue was $29.6B: semiconductors $20.8B (+127%) plus infrastructure software $8.8B (+29%). AI semiconductors of $16.7B were 56% of revenue (16.7 ÷ 29.6) and rose 54% on the prior quarter. Non-GAAP operating income was $20.1B, a 67.9% margin; GAAP operating income was $16.0B. Free cash flow was $13.7B, 46% of revenue. Gross margin fell 210 bp on the quarter to 75% because XPUs, which are 73% of AI revenue, carry more memory; management guides about 73% for Q4.
Q4 guidance is revenue of about $34.8B (+93%) with $21.7B of AI semiconductors, 30% above Q3 (21.7 ÷ 16.7 − 1). Management also cites FY2026 AI revenue of about $58B, and long-range targets covered in Chapter 5. The two models differ in size and cost: Nvidia's Data Center revenue is 5.3 times Broadcom's AI revenue (89.0 ÷ 16.7), though the quarters end a week apart. Broadcom earns a similar operating margin on custom silicon.
3.3 AMD, TSMC and Oracle: second source, foundry and host
AMD reported Q2 2026 on Aug 4, for the quarter ended Jun 27. Revenue was $11,536M, up 50% on $7,685M (a year earlier). TradingKey's "45%" conflicts with this arithmetic (11,536 ÷ 7,685 − 1 = 50.1%), so we follow the release. GAAP gross margin was 54% and non-GAAP 56%; non-GAAP operating income was $3,094M (27%). Data Center was $6.7B (+107%), or 58% of revenue; Client and Gaming was $3.8B (+6%) and Embedded $977M (+19%), which add to the total. Q3 guidance of $13.0B ±$0.3B compares with LSEG consensus of $12.52B (an analyst estimate). CEO Lisa Su said Data Center revenue should double in 2027, and server revenue should rise over 80% in H2 2026. TSMC reported on Oct 15, 2026. The source conflict is on dollars: Futurum and SEMIVISION say US$46.72B, while Tech Insider (citing CNBC) says $46.87B. We follow $46.72B. TSMC's Q3 guide was $44.6-45.8B, so revenue beat the top by 2.0% (46.72 ÷ 45.8). Net income was NT$763.06B (+68.7%) and the operating margin was 58.7%. High-performance computing was 68% of revenue. Gross margin fell 1.3 points to 66.4% on the 2-nm ramp. Q4 guidance is US$52.3-54.3B, a 14% rise at the midpoint (53.3 ÷ 46.72 − 1 = 14.1%), with gross margin of 65-67%, and the 2026 growth outlook was raised to about 44% in US dollars. The 2026 capital budget stays at $60-64B. TSMC's own release is not in the material; these are Futurum's figures.
Oracle reported Q1 FY27 on Sep 10, 2026. Revenue was $19.3B (+30%), and cloud revenue $11.6B (+62%) was $7.4B infrastructure plus $4.2B applications. Non-GAAP EPS was $1.92 and GAAP EPS $1.56. Remaining performance obligations (RPO) were $664B, up $209B in a year, so the year-ago base was $455B, with more than $30B of AI contracts booked in the quarter. The cost shows in cash. Operating cash flow was $23.1B, including $11.4B of customer prepayments, against capex of $28.5B, leaving free cash flow near −$5.4B (23.1 − 28.5). Oracle sold $20B of stock through its at-the-market program, and shares outstanding rose from 2,880M to 3,024M, or 5.0%. The 10-Q (via StockTitan) shows $125.0B of senior notes and borrowings outstanding. Guidance for fiscal 2027 is revenue of at least $90B and non-GAAP EPS of $8.10; Q2 revenue growth is guided at 30-34%.
4. AI revenue and capital expenditure
Chapter 3 covered the chip, software and infrastructure companies that sell into the AI buildout; this chapter adds up what the buyers plan to spend and what AI revenue and backlog the sellers have disclosed.

| Global AI investment 2026 | $1.019T, of which US $581B | Aug 7, 2026 | Goldman Sachs estimate | Goldman Sachs; BigGo |
4.1 Capex: four plans, mostly raised
Three of the four hyperscalers raised their 2026 plans. Alphabet lifted its range to $195–205B to speed up capacity delivery (CFO Anat Ashkenazi, Jul 22). Amazon moved to about $220B, which CFO Brian Olsavsky tied largely to memory costs. Meta narrowed to $135–145B on Oct 21. Microsoft's drop is an accounting change: CFO Amy Hood extended the useful life of data-centre and office buildings from 15 to 25 years, so more future leases count as operating leases outside capex, and she said plans "remain unchanged". Sources conflict here. Statista says Microsoft held $190B, and MarketBeat labels $175B as fiscal 2027. We follow CNBC and TMT Finance, which quote Hood and say calendar 2026.
The sum is 220 + 195 + 175 + 135 = $725B to 220 + 205 + 175 + 145 = $745B. Against about $410B in 2025 (Memeburn, company definitions) that is +77% to +82% (725 ÷ 410 − 1; 745 ÷ 410 − 1). It is not an AI-only figure. Amazon reports cash capex net of proceeds, Alphabet property purchases, and Meta adds finance-lease principal, and none of them splits out AI.
The ramp is back-loaded. First-half capex was Alphabet $80.6B, Meta $50.9B, Microsoft $72.9B (March and June quarters) and Amazon $96.3B, $300.7B in total. Memeburn's arithmetic, (guidance − H1) ÷ 2, needs Alphabet at $57.2–62.2B a quarter against $44.9B in Q2, Microsoft at ~$51.1B against $41.0B, and Amazon at ~$61.8B against $53.1B. For Meta, Q3 capex of $34.91B brings nine months to 50.9 + 34.9 = $85.8B. Q4 must then be $49.2–59.2B (135 − 85.8; 145 − 85.8), or 41–70% above Q3 (our arithmetic).
Tesla is the one cut, reported by Reuters at about $20B on its Oct 21 call (results in Chapter 2). Nine-month capex of $13.01B leaves 20 − 13.01 = $7.0B for Q4, against about $12B under the old plan.
Goldman Sachs Research widens the lens. Its estimate of $1.019T of global AI investment in 2026 covers private and non-US spend and strips out non-AI capex. The $794B consensus for US hyperscalers, by contrast, includes non-AI spend and omits private and non-US firms; Goldman says hyperscalers supply only about 40% of AI-related supply.
Big-four 2026 capex guidance is $725–745B, 77–82% above 2025, and it is back-loaded: every company except Microsoft (an accounting change) has raised its plan, and Q4 must run well above Q3.
4.2 AI revenue and backlog: what is disclosed
| Company | Metric | Value | Period, report date | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon | AWS revenue; annualized | $42.2B, +37%; $169B run rate | Q2, Jun 30; Jul 30 | Futurum, quoting release |
| Amazon | AI business and chips, each | Above $25B run rate | Q2; Jul 30 | Futurum |
| Amazon | AWS backlog (RPO) | $496B, from $364B | Jun 30, 2026 | Techtimes; Tunguz |
| Alphabet | Google Cloud revenue; backlog | $24.8B, +82%; $514B | Q2, Jun 30 | TechnologyChecker, citing Alphabet |
| Microsoft | Commercial RPO | $678B, +84% | FQ4, Jun 30; Jul 29 | CNBC |
| Broadcom | AI semiconductor revenue | $16.7B, +221% | FQ3, Aug 2; Sep 2 | Broadcom release |
| Nvidia | Data Center revenue | $89.0B, +117% | FQ2 FY27, Jul 26; Aug 26 | Nvidia release |
| Oracle | RPO | $664B, +$209B | FQ1 FY27; Sep 10 | Oracle release |
The periods differ, so the rows are not summed. Three readings follow.
First, backlog is large relative to revenue. AWS holds 496 ÷ 169 = 2.9x its annualized revenue. Google Cloud holds 514 ÷ (24.8 × 4 = 99.2) = 5.2x. Broadcom guided FQ4 AI revenue to $21.7B, up 236% and 21.7 ÷ 16.7 − 1 = 30% over FQ3 (longer-range targets are in Chapter 5). Nvidia's Data Center line was 89.0 ÷ 96.2 = 92.5% of its revenue.
Second, backlog is concentrated in AI labs. Microsoft said in January that about 45% of its then-$625B RPO was tied to OpenAI. TMT Finance puts RPO growth at 84%, or 25% excluding OpenAI. Investing.com says about $100B of AWS backlog is one customer. UBS estimates that 27% of Google Cloud's 2026 revenue comes from OpenAI and Anthropic (estimate). One conflict: Google Cloud's backlog rose from $467.6B at Mar 31, a gain of $46.4B, while ref_22 says "more than $50B".
Third, the material has gaps. It gives no dollar AI run-rate for Microsoft. Statista says its AI business grew 123%, and Microsoft 365 Copilot passed 30 million paid seats. Shattered.io's reported $29.4B Azure figure for the June quarter is unconfirmed.
4.3 Financing and credit: who pays
The funding mix is shifting from cash flow to debt, equity and joint ventures. Meta's Q3 capex of $34.91B exceeded operating cash flow of $32.79B, so free cash flow was −$2.12B, against +$10.63B a year earlier. Reuters calls it Meta's first cash burn in over a decade. Meta also disclosed $825B of spending commitments, up from $700B in July, and long-term debt rose from $59B to $84B in six months (Measured AI). Its El Paso campus sits in an 80/20 venture with BlackRock funds, a $14.3B, 960 MW project backed by about $12.5B of notes priced Jul 27. Meta's new non-voting Class C shares, which take effect Jan 19, 2027 if the charter amendment becomes effective, are covered in Chapter 5.
Markets priced the strain. Meta's five-year credit default swap hit a record on Oct 22: 114.5 bp per Reuters (via MarketScreener), 119.3 bp per Investing.com. Swaps on Oracle, Microsoft and Broadcom widened too. CoreWeave's unsecured bond yields reached 15% in the prior week's selloff.
The other spenders differ:
- Alphabet reported its first negative free cash flow since its 2004 IPO, −$5.9B. TMT Finance puts its debt near $100B and cites an $80B equity programme from June that includes a $10B Berkshire Hathaway placement.
- Amazon had trailing free cash flow of 161.4 − 169.0 = −$7.6B. It issued debt this year, and Jassy said servers break even in under three years.
- Microsoft kept free cash flow positive at $19.6B and expects the same in fiscal 2027.
- Oracle posted free cash flow of about −$5.4B in FQ1 FY27 (23.1 − 28.5, operating cash flow less capex) and completed a $20B at-the-market equity sale.
- Nvidia announced financing platforms with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR to mobilize over $500B of third-party capital, "subject to definitive agreements" (announced Aug 26).
A $1.65T "hidden debt" estimate for five companies mixes leases, purchase contracts and guarantees, and is not borrowed principal (estimate). Our judgement: only Microsoft is funding growth from internal cash. The weak points are lab-concentrated backlog and smaller operators that cannot raise money cheaply (see Chapter 5 for market reaction).
5. Guidance, management comments and market reaction
Chapter 4 set out how much the big platforms say they will spend; this chapter asks what managements promised in return, and how investors judged it. Reports after Oct 23 are upcoming.

5.1 What managements committed to
Meta is the clearest case. Its CFO outlook gives Q4 revenue of $73-76B, assuming roughly a 1% currency headwind. The $74.5B midpoint is 74.5 ÷ 73.73 = 1.0% above the LSEG consensus. It gave no 2027 revenue outlook, but said AI gains would "sustain strong overall revenue growth throughout 2027", and expects Reality Labs losses of about $15B in 2027. Zuckerberg added that Muse "will be highly profitable over multiple years", provided compute efficiency keeps improving. The board approved non-voting Class C stock, effective Jan 19, 2027, with one Class C share for each Class A or B share. Meta expects Class A to trade as if split two-for-one, but the charter change, approved by written consent on Oct 20, is not yet effective and has no record date. Zuckerberg committed to stay in California for eight years.
Nvidia guided Q3 FY2027 revenue to $108.0B ±2%, a range of 105.84 to 110.16 ($108.0B × 0.98 and × 1.02), with no China data-center compute assumed. The "about $104B" figure often quoted is not guidance. It is the pre-report consensus of $103.8B (41 analysts, Aug 24), so the guide sat 4.0% above it (108.0 ÷ 103.8) and even the low end cleared it. Call highlights (secondary) add fiscal 2028 growth of about 70%.
Broadcom is the boldest. Hock Tan said on the Sep 2 call that FY2026 AI semiconductor revenue is about $58B, FY2027 about $115B with supply secured, and FY2028 about $230B, "line of sight" with supply also secured. Citi had expected $180B for FY2028. The release guides fiscal Q4 AI revenue to $21.7B (+236%) and total revenue to about $34.8B. Motley Fool gives $21.6B; we follow the release. Bernstein's Stacy Rasgon noted that $115B and $230B imply only $11-12B per gigawatt against roughly $40B Nvidia has cited, and Tan replied that XPUs cost "less than half".
Apple, Tesla and Oracle gave narrower signals. Apple guided September-quarter growth down to 9-11% on supply limits and a 2.5-point currency headwind. On the Oct 21 call, Musk said robotaxi revenue should be noticeable in Q2 2027. Reuters reported a cut in Tesla's capex to about $20B, which Electrek says the Q3 letter did not update, so the cut came on the call. With $13.01B spent in nine months, $20B implies about $7.0B in Q4, versus about $12B under the old $25B. Oracle raised FY2027 to $8.10 and at least $90B, guided Q2 revenue growth of 30-34%, and left capex guidance unchanged.
5.2 Share-price reactions: the first move did not last
After four of the quarter's biggest AI reports, the after-hours reaction was reversed or faded within days. Guidance did not set the direction. Capex, free cash flow and the sector tape did.
- Meta (Oct 21-22, 2026). It rose about 2.2-2.5% after hours on a revenue beat. It then fell 6.98% on Oct 22 as "AI bubble fears remerged" and semiconductors sold off. Revenue of $64.6B beat $63.3B expected, but EPS consensus differs ($3.57 per Investing.com, $5.75 per Baystreet), so we cite only the revenue beat.
- Tesla (Oct 21-22, 2026). It rose about 2% on the release, then slid after the call. Reuters (via Brisk Markets) had it down about 5% premarket, while Baystreet put it near 3%, at different times. Its regular-session close on Oct 22 is not in the material.
- Market backdrop (Oct 22). The Nasdaq opened down 1.48% to 26,308.41 and the S&P 500 down 0.81%. Brent was near $112.
- Apple (Jul 30). It fell 3-4% in extended trading despite a beat, after a services miss ($30.74B vs $31.22B expected).
- Broadcom (Sep 2 - Oct 8). It fell 1.3% overnight on a Q4 guide just under the $35B consensus, then closed at $360.14, down 4.35%, on Oct 8 in a chip sell-off.
- Oracle (Sep 10-11). It closed Sep 10 down 5.38% at $152.94 and rose about 4% in extended trading. Reuters had it up 5.5% premarket the next day. Yahoo Finance said it later "trimmed gains"; the Sep 11 close is not in the material.
- Nvidia (Aug 27). According to StockTitan, an aggregator, it closed 8.74% higher. Its own tracker shows a peak of only +3.7%, so treat this as unverified.
5.3 Valuation: bubble warnings against a de-rating
Goldman Sachs Research reports forward P/E falling from 23x to 19x, in line with its 10-year average, while its cyclically adjusted P/E is near a record but below 1999-2000. It forecasts the S&P 500 at 8,700 in 12 months, up 12.1% from 7,764 on Sep 21 (8,700 ÷ 7,764 - 1). That is an estimate, not our view. Citadel Securities says Q3 consensus is about 27% earnings growth (Bloomberg, Oct 12), with Micron and Nvidia alone supplying 36% of expected growth, the ten largest contributors about two-thirds, and the rest about 11%. LSEG's figure is 31%, so the two estimate sets differ.
The bears are mostly commentary. Whitney Tilson sees "a similar AI bubble" like March 2000 (date not stated, after Aug 14). Ameriprise's Anthony Saglimbene warns the cycle is "approaching peak earnings growth". Invesco argues demand already exceeds supply (date not stated). On target changes, the material has only KeyBanc reiterating Overweight and $575 on Broadcom after the call. At Oct 8's $360.14, a forward multiple on Tan's "over $30" EPS floor is about 12x (360.14 ÷ 30), close to the 11.5x Motley Fool computed. Oracle traded at 16.86x forward earnings, against 23.84x for Microsoft and 22.58x for Amazon (LSEG via Reuters, Sep 11).
Next up are Alphabet and Microsoft on Oct 28 and Amazon on Oct 29 (secondary source), and roughly 47% of S&P 500 weight reports between Oct 28 and Nov 3. Those reports face a market that has just sold strong prints.
6. What to watch next quarter
Chapters 2-5 recorded the results, the spending and the market's reaction. This chapter turns them into a watch list by company, a table of what changed and what it implies for each reader, and a dated calendar. It uses only facts from those chapters and gives no investment advice.
6.1 What to watch by company and theme
- Capex pace. The big four guide to $725-745B for 2026, and the plan is back-loaded: Alphabet needs $57.2-62.2B a quarter against $44.9B in Q2, and Meta's Q4 must be $49.2-59.2B against $34.91B in Q3. Alphabet and Microsoft are expected on Oct 28 and Amazon on Oct 29, according to secondary sources.
- Cash and credit. Meta's free cash flow was -$2.12B, Alphabet's -$5.9B and Oracle's about -$5.4B. Meta's credit default swap reached a record on Oct 22 (114.5 or 119.3 bp, by source). Tesla's reported cut to about $20B implies about $7.0B of Q4 capex, against about $12B under the old plan.
- Supplier guidance. Nvidia guides Q3 FY27 to $108.0B ±2%, Broadcom's fiscal Q4 AI revenue to $21.7B and TSMC's Q4 to US$52.3-54.3B, while gross margins slip (Broadcom about 73%, TSMC 65-67%). Apple guided fiscal Q4 growth to 9-11% on supply limits; its result is not yet reported and the date is not stated.
- Meta's share structure. Class C stock takes effect on Jan 19, 2027, but the charter change approved on Oct 20 is not yet effective.
6.2 What changed and what it implies
| Reader | What changed | Implication | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equity investors | Beats were sold: Meta fell 6.98% on Oct 22 after a 2.2-2.5% after-hours rise; forward P/E is 19x against 23x a year ago | Judge the Oct 28-29 reports on capex and free cash flow, not revenue; Q3 earnings-growth estimates differ (27% Citadel, 31% LSEG) | — |
| Credit and funding desks | Meta's debt rose from $59B to $84B in six months and its commitments to $825B; Oracle sold $20B of stock and has $125.0B of notes and borrowings outstanding | Track new issuance, swap spreads on Meta, Oracle, Microsoft and Broadcom, and joint ventures such as El Paso | — |
| Cloud buyers and operators | Microsoft says demand exceeds capacity, Nvidia sees supply tight through fiscal 2028, Amazon ties its raise to memory costs | Expect capacity and memory prices, not demand, to set timelines; backlog is concentrated (about $100B of AWS backlog is one customer) | — |
| Suppliers | Nvidia, Broadcom, AMD and TSMC all guide up; Broadcom's outlook is about $115B (FY2027) and $230B (FY2028) | Volume is visible, so watch margins and whether customers' funding holds | — |
The next quarter tests whether back-loaded capex of $725-745B can be paid for from cash flow and AI-lab contracts, because Meta, Alphabet and Oracle already show negative free cash flow while suppliers guide to record revenue.
6.3 Key dates
