Optimus enters production, models become platforms, prices fall

Tesla started Optimus on a million-unit line while pushing deliveries to late 2027, Unitree's new humanoid fell on stage, robot models turned into APIs and toolkits, Astribot raised at ¥15 billion, and China approved its first humanoid standards.

Optimus enters production, models become platforms, prices fall

Five conclusions

1
Production lines are real; customer deliveries are not yet
Optimus is in early production on a Fremont line designed for about 1M robots a year, but outside customers wait until around the end of 2027. China expects 100,000+ humanoids this year.
2
Demos are getting tougher, and so is scrutiny
Figure 03 walked 348 miles in nine days; Unitree's new H2-X fell during a side flip at its own conference a day after launch and lost a lower leg.
3
Robot models are becoming platforms
Nvidia added Isaac OS and Isaac Lab 3.0; Physical Intelligence opened a paid API beta; Google previewed Gemini Robotics ER 2; NEURA released Neuron AI without benchmarks.
4
Money follows full-stack Chinese makers
Astribot raised ¥1B at a ¥15B valuation, its fourth round in six months; Noetix reportedly filed for a Hong Kong IPO; Figure holds more than $2B in cash.
5
The price floor fell as standards arrived
Noetix's Bumi costs ¥9,998 and Unitree's R1 ¥29,900; Faraday Future sells a $2,490 developer humanoid. China's first six humanoid standards apply from Apr 1, 2027.

The lesson

Lines are ready for millions of robots; the hands, the tests and the customers are what come next.

Tougher demos, harder scrutiny

Launched Oct 21. The H2-X "Kung Fu Legend Guardian" is a version of Unitree's H2 for security and rescue work.

  • Up to about 8 hours of runtime, per Unitree.
  • The launch video shows a dented car door, a car lift and a jump from about 4 m.
  • No full spec and no statement on which actions were autonomous.

A launch video is a best take, not a reliability test. Unitree had not commented on the fall.

Robot models become platforms

Models you can rent or build on

Physical Intelligence (Oct 13)Pi API beta: fine-tune, hosted inference
Google Gemini Robotics ER 2Preview on Gemini 3.5 Flash; streaming
Nvidia Isaac (Oct 21)Isaac OS, Isaac Lab 3.0 (open source)
NEURA Neuron AI (Oct 14)Vision, touch, audio, memory; on-robot
DEEP RoboticsDR-VLA-2.0, world model DR-WM-1.0
NEURA published no quantitative benchmarks; Google's Gemini 4 Argon robot demos relied on detailed instructions and vendor tests.

Why it matters

  • Smaller makers can rent a model instead of building one, so differentiation moves to data and hardware.
  • Beyond vision: NEURA adds touch and sound because cameras alone cannot confirm contact.
  • World models join the stack: DEEP Robotics released one alongside its VLA model, with seven universities.
  • Helix 3.0 is coming from Figure, but without a date or numbers.

Humanoids took about five minutes of Nvidia's 94-minute GTC Berlin keynote, which was dominated by AI factories and agents.

China leads on volume while Tesla builds capacity

Humanoid volumes in context

IDC counted nearly 25,000 humanoids shipped worldwide in H1 2026 (+432.1%), AGIBOT first with 8,600+ (about 35%). Plans and expectations are not delivered units.

Money flows to Chinese full-stack makers and to Figure's compute

Astribot reaches ¥15B

A ¥1B round led by Shenzhen Investment Holdings' Donghai fund; the fourth round in about six months. T1 ships since June; 10,000-unit capacity planned.
  • Noetix: confidential Hong Kong IPO filing, listing as early as 2027 (Bloomberg, Oct 22).
  • Sichuan EIR: more than ¥100M Pre-A on Oct 16 for a 10,000-unit base.
  • Neolix (delivery vehicles): Series E of nearly $400M.

Bodies, hands, prices and standards

Legs, wheels or arms

Three robot body approaches compared

Legged humanoids carry the hardest balance and durability problems; Inovance chose wheels, HD Hyundai an upper body, and Astribot uses cable drives. Tesla's engineers call the hand their hardest hardware area.

Unitree's average price fell about 72% in two years (prospectus). Sub-¥10,000 robots are demo platforms, not industrial machines.
